We Made Up Your Mind for You

posted 04/13/2006

Cloud Cult’s on tour.  They don’t do this often.  Or, at least, often enough.  Show up and encourage them, won’t you?  If you live in Chicago, you can see them TONIGHT.  I envy you, Chicago, what with your easy access to quality midwestern bands.

New York gets three gigs, starting with their headlining slot at Gothamist’s  Movable Hype 7.0 at the Knitting Factory on 4/17 (also on the bill:  Stars of Track and Field (a Central Village pick), Vegan favorite Land of Talk, and a late set from The Slack Republic).  Tickets are perfectly priced – $8 – and you can buy yours at the Knitting Factory box office or through Ticketweb.

It’s not hype, though:  The band was responsible for what I thought was inarguably the best album of 2005.  They played two great shows during CMJ week, and I’ve mentioned them over and over again.  I’d planned a sprawling, serious entry about them – but for now, here’s something short and sweet:

Cloud Cult - Waitress(mp3)

The world’s most perfect one-minute-forty-four second song, it’s off an earlier CD called They Live on the Sun.  Buy it here... or, better yet, from the band when you go see them:

As many as I can, of course.

I'm partial to "breakfast with my shadow" myself.
