Reeling from having been shut-out at the MTV Woodie Awards, former Bowie-mates Arcade Fire have embarked on careers as street performers. From Radio City Music Hall to the L Train in just a little more than a month.
According to the folks at Let’s Do This (link via Brooklyn Vegan), Win Butler, Will Butler, and Régine Chassagne were playing cover songs outside the Union Square subway station at about 2a.m. Saturday morning. Someone named Jeff took some video of the group doing The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry” (direct link (again, via)).
Love how Régine’s wailing away at that guitar case like a gorilla on a Samsonite.
I fully expect the entire ensemble to be swarthed in ponchos and tooting away at Peruvian pan-flutes in Times Square for morning rush hour.
Fellow Fireman Richard Reed Parry’s post-rock side-project Bell Orchestre is at Tonic Monday night. Special Guests? Anyone?
