The very second the curtain fell on Hot Snakes, people started wondering where Rick Froberg and John Reis would wind up next. The pair had pulled up and thrown down Pitchfork (their band, not the blog), revved and junked Drive Like Jehu. A couple months after the Snakes died, Reis shook the last handful of chicken bones over Rocket from the Crypt. These guys like starting, stopping bands.
Reis' new act is called The Night Marchers (myspace). They're due to play their first gig in San Diego tomorrow, will be at SXSW next month.
Froberg's is closer to home, lucky us. His Obits (myspace) played their first ever show almost a month ago in Cake Shop's sweaty basement. Their early set was packed - full rundown here - and bootlegged (thanks to the folks at the Swami Records forum).
Obits - Two-Headed Coin (live at Cake Shop 1-12-08)(mp3)
Fierce.
Their next NYC appearance is in Union Hall's way-too-nice basement, Saturday , March 8th. In lieu of sucking I'm going to try to be there. Tix are here. A couple other dates (Philly, DC, Baltimore) at their myspace.
