PR Reps/Labels/Bands:  At this time, I am not accepting any free product.  If I like an album, I'll buy it.  (Who would I be to recommend a CD I haven't bought myself?)  Links to album streams, MP3s, or myspace pages can be sent to the e-mail address above - though frankly I pay little attention to press releases and their ilk. Sorry.

In Freaks We Trust (Coney Island Mermaid Parade 2007, Page 1)

posted 12/27/1998

So, hooray.

It's hard to not love the people in this parade.  The colors, the creativity, the great glorious goof of it all.  It's as if this town loved Halloween so much it invented a second one, stuck it on the beach.  Takes all kinds, takes all comers.  There are no nationality/sexuality/age/race/class requirements, there's no secret handshake.  Families and free spirits, babies and boobies.  Freaks!  One of us, one of us.

Involved assemblages.  Hand-woven finery.  Discount day-glo wigs and birthday suits.

Photographers were walking around the staging area - $5 or a working press pass to get in - with lenses as long as the Parachute Jump is tall, lenses almost as long as the wait at Nathan's.  And people like me, phutzing with peashooters.  But when you've got a beautiful day and beautiful people, you can't go too wrong.

Below are a handful of favorites.  Links at the bottom to three additional pages of pics.
