(And MORE? Oh, those wags at MSNBC. Don't worry. I'm sure Claire Bear has the antibodies to handle all that action.)

Not an actual post, but there's just so much fun on the calendar this weekend I thought I'd share a couple things...
Tonight, Brooklyn Vegan hosts one of the pen(x9)-ultimate line-ups at Sin-é. Sally Forth-approved Pela (myspace) headlines a show that includes Tim Fite, Marissa Nadler, and Shy Child. There's even a few Fins calling themselves "Fun;" Touch & Go lovers ignore the irony.

Saturday's chock full of the stuff the indie kids are afraid to tell you about:
The Legendary Shack Shakers (myspace) are at Southpaw, and if you haven't, you should. Saw them open for Reverend Horton Heat, recently; total psychobilly freakout.
Legendary Shack Shakers - Ichabod (mp3) (buy)
They're so much better live than they are on record, they should get themselves a second name. (tickets)
The perpetually underrated Electric Six (myspace) bring their dark comic disco to the Bowery. They've enough of a following they don't need my endorsement, but I really liked their last record. Someone should have packaged them with The Rapture. Put Switzerland back to back with Pieces of the People We Love and the whole house would dance and fuck and die. (tickets)
The Fleshtones (myspace) turn the teensyweensy Magnetic Field into Hitsburg. Human pyramids, push-ups, and some goshdurned good garage rock. Saw them at last year's Atlantic Antic, and wheeee. Yeah, they're old. So old they come from a time when bands actually worked to entertain their audience. Go, let them.
The Fleshtones - I Want the Answers (mp3) (buy)
And I was about to say, "If you prefer your garage with fangs and fake blood, Direct from Hollywood Cemetery is at some place called Otto's Shrunken Head." But I just checked the venue's site and - phfffft - they're off the schedule. Which sucks. But these pics from their myspace are great, so I'm throwing them up anyway.

Yes, please. More of that. Let's hope they haven't gone the way of Tralala.

Saturday stuff for the indie kids: Good Guy (and former Mr. Brownstoner) Dave Godowsky (myspace) is doing the singer-songwriter thing fo' free upstairs at Pianos. "One or two guys from Clap Your Hands might sit in, too," he says.
Dave Godowsky - You and Me (mp3)
And the folks over at The Music Slut are holding down the Delancey basement with Locksley, The Silent Years, A Brief Smile, Cassettes Don't Listen, and The Midnight Hours. (info, tickets) They're donating "a portion of the profit" to City Harvest. So, hooray.

A couple other noteworthy things to mention before I get back to being myself:
Next Tuesday, the 27th, Matt from Brooklyn Ski Club is putting on some free (with RSVP) show with (some) free drinks at Webster Hall. Don't know anything about the acts/DJs, but I know that free is good. Info here, RSVP here.
That same night, Seattle's Jason Webley (myspace) stops in at the Parkside Lounge. Webley's the man behind this bit of wonder:
That one'll still be stuck in your head when they bury you. (Webley's got three Jersey gigs, for those doing time there. Dates here.)
Lovable accordionist (and former Mr. Brownstoner) Corn Mo (myspace) is also on the Parkside's schedule that night... though the gig's not on Mr. Mo's site. Life's an adventure.

While you're still listening to "Eleven Saints," a quick trip to the We're Laughing With You Dept.: A fond farewell and safe trip to Mr. Calvert DeForest/Larry ‘Bud' Melman. Gentle and clueless, the way I likes my comedy. Here's hoping he's handing out hot towels - and mishandling the microphone - in Heaven. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
