Aaaaaaaaah! Big scary kitchen sink!
Time once again for one of my internationally, supernaturally lauded Halloween mixes. The past couple years I've scoured the world-wide far-and for the best - well, the readily available and modestly acceptable - surf and psychobilly horror-themed tracks. This time around I've stitched autumn-appropriate chunks of this and that into one monstrous mush. Along with a bit of ‘billy there's garage, funk, indie rock (yikes!), and a splattering of novelty tunes.*
There're only two rules governing Halloween mixes: Any track with a "Bouahahahaha!" on it is valid, and anyone who includes a Sufjan Stevens song is a twat.
You can get your Cramps and Misfits and Thrillers elsewhere. We shake our pillowcase in less likely neighborhoods. I cheated in a Rob Zombie. Be Your Own Pet is here because lines like "Love is lame so let me eat your brain" are pure candy; the Vivian Girls' very omnipresence is terrifying. Harry Potter-inspired battle cries, vampiric poodles, your cocksucking mother. They're all below. Don't forget to repent at the end. This mix won't change your afterlife, but you'll laugh, you'll shimmy, you'll shit your pants in terror. TERROR. And I made sure there was at least one song everyone would hate.
(Should anyone at your party get visibly happy when Beat Happening goes corpse-humping, best to have them forcibly removed.)
Individual tracks follow, or stuff your face with two (pt 1, pt 2) zipped files.
Have a safe and a Happy Halloween! Remember: The razor blade is the most nutritious part of the apple.
* Nothing that explicitly mentions Witch Doctors, Purple People Eaters, or Boris Pickett's holiday hit... but I couldn't help including The Drivers' spin on "Dry Bones." I wound up triple-dipping in the helpful Monster Bop comp, if you want to dock points for that.

Did you know that The Mummies played a reunion show with King Khan & BBQ and others a couple weeks ago? Sure, it was in Spain and shit, but isn't that something we all should have known about?

Nothing to do with the season, but: Do yourself a favor and go to the Shilpa Ray's myspace and listen to her cover of "Only Have Eyes for You." And then all the rest. Love that husky slur.
I never managed to catch Beat the Devil when they existed. Can't decide if the new band name is unfortunate or not.

Three of these 65(!) surveyees are obvs delusional, but I'm flattered. Also, all my favorite shutterbugs live in Pomona, CA.

Stephanie Mckay's very good Tell It Like It Is is now available in the US via iTunes. No word on a physical disc. She has shows coming up at The Highline Ballroom on 11/21 and The Brooklyn Lyceum on 12/11.
