Bembeya Jazz National - Super Tentemba (Live)(mp3)(buy)

Was going to worry about conjuring up some sort of place and time, here, but right now I just need to defy context.  Out there it is grey and cold and down, down.   Everything about this performance is victory.  Elements -- even the weirdly mixed crowd noise -- bubble up and recede without being forgotten.  Soloists and band, rise and return, loose and tighten.  Assertions shift and are shared.  Demba Camara is a consummate host, cool, conversational, enthusiastic.  On, on, up, up.  These fourteen minutes were first issued as the A and B sides of a 45, and I imagine someone flipped it over every seven ticks until it lasted one whole day long.
