PR Reps/Labels/Bands:  At this time, I am not accepting any free product.  If I like an album, I'll buy it.  (Who would I be to recommend a CD I haven't bought myself?)  Links to album streams, MP3s, or myspace pages can be sent to the e-mail address above - though frankly I pay little attention to press releases and their ilk. Sorry.

(photo from last year, but same difference)

If you happened to be out near Prospect Park Ballfields around 2am, last night, and saw some damned fool romping and rassling about in the snow with a great black beast... Yeah, well, that was me.

It doesn’t make the old dog – he’s going to be eleven in a couple months – a puppy again, not like it used to. He’d throw his ears back and tuck down into something scary and aerodynamic and blitz around in mad, urgent circles. Like there was something about the chill in the air and the cold wet stuff on the ground that put him at the center of an electrostatic reaction. You could power a small city off that puppy. Or at least recharge your blackberry.

Whenever he’d slow down, you’d just have to raise your hands over your head and scream “Wheeeeee!” and he’d whrrr back up again.

Science!

Now he’s got a gimpy leg and extra globs of weight, but if the snow doesn’t make him a puppy it still makes him a much younger dog. So when I looked out and saw the stuff was actually piling up – we apparently got more snow than most of the city, last night – I made sure he could get at it before it got all shoveled and sludged and tracked up. So there was some running, though the old dog don’t run no more. There were powder fights and mock-abominable snowbeast attacks. And, priorities: A whole new white world to pee on. Joy.

Via Battering Room: Cloud Cult tix are on sale for a Mercury Lounge show on Saturday, April 14th. They’re available here or at the Merc b/o.

The band’s new record The Meaning of Eight will be in stores on April 10th, but is available immediately through the Cloud Cult site. You can stream three of the new songs, there, also; a fourth is on their myspace.

My favorite track is the spoken word bit where Dick Van Patten reads aloud from The Dhammapada.

Hey, that Get Your War On guy still updates his site. Do you think he’ll wrap that shit up by January ’09? To continue on would be THE HEIGHT OF IRRESPONSIBILITY.
