How awesome has my week been? I managed to slice my face open while brushing my teeth last night. So: AWESOME.
Here, this will help: A playlist made up of some of the garagier efforts from noted retro-lovin' frog-pop chanteuse April March (née Pee-Wee's Playhouse and Ren & Stimpy animator Elinor Blake). It spans her days with NYC girl-group The Pussywillows, LA-based punk-poppers The Shitbirds, her keen collaboration with the Sonics-inspired Makers; the solo tracks include un mandatory indulgence en Francais and her brassy, acidic redeaux de Serge Gainsbourg's "Laisse Tomber Les Filles" (featured in Tarantino's Death Proof (loved the first half, hated the second, I'm right, you're wrong, shut up)).
How awesome are these songs? So awesome they could slice your face open with a toothbrush. They're smart enough to leave well enough alone, not a one lasts longer than two-and-a-half. All together, these seven songs will get me, and you, fifteen minutes closer to next week. Which might be even worse than this one was! Enjoy.
